With her origins firmly rooted in UK Grime, East London born A.G has carved out a reputation for herself within the UK underground music scene as a talented DJ, radio personality & host. Alex Baker is a board member of Gaydio Brighton Ltd, as well as Digital Editor and presenter at Juice 107.2. He’s recently completed an MA in Digital Media at the University of Sussex. Before working on the south coast, Alex spent six years looking after imaging and commercial production at GaydarRadio, which won a Gold Sony Radio Award as well as Arquiva Digital Radio Station of the Year, whilst he was part of the team. Alex caught the radio bug whilst studying Government and History at LSE (and arguably did a lot less studying as a result).

He co-founded CMU, a service provider to the music industry best known for its media – the CMU Daily, CMU Digest and CMU Trends Report – which also provides training and consultancy to music companies, hosts the UK’s biggest music business conference at The Great Escape festival in Brighton, and runs the CMU:DIY education programme for new talent. He writes for CMU’s media, curates and presents CMU@TGE, and leads the company’s training and consultancy projects.

After graduating with a BA in European Studies from the University of Leicester in 2011, she moved to Madrid, Spain to work as English teacher to improve her Spanish and generally delay making adult life decisions for another 5 years. Upon her return to the UK last year, she unexpectedly found herself hosting a podcast with friend Imriel Morgan and in the process created a much needed platform, where she shares her millennial struggles to a keen demographic whose perspectives often go untold.

Mickey has been a DJ and record collector since 1993 and his focus has always been left of centre, the ‘other room’ sound. He started promoting at the end of the 90’s and had the pleasure of playing next to and hosting such luminaries as Norman Jay, 4 Hero, Melle Mel and the Furious five, Daddy G, James Lavelle & UNKLE amongst many others. 
He had the idea 18 months or so ago to start a radio station as he felt the music he loved wasn’t being represented.  So, he started a community interest company and 1 Brighton FM was born. As one of three directors, it’s a labour of love but he wouldn’t have it any other way!

Mary Epworth has been making significant waves since releasing debut album Dream Life on her own label, Hand Of Glory, in 2012. Inspired by nature and landscape, Dream Life inhabits two worlds: a dark, ghostly English winter, and the light of an imagined idyllic California.
 
Much praise has come from the press, including Q magazine calling the album “Psych pop splendour… Experimentalism, melody and narrative co-existing in appealing balance”, and Record Collector awarding the album five stars and hailing it as “A work of bracing originality… Immaculately sung and graced throughout with intelligent, song-serving arrangements and inspired production touches.” Overwhelming radio support has included 3 singles playlisted on BBC 6 Music and ‘Black Doe’ picked as BBC Radio 1’s Hottest Record In The World. 

This attention has lead to Mary and her band performing sold-out headline shows and many festival appearances including Festival Number 6, Bestival, SXSW and The Great Escape. At the Liverpool International Music Festival, Mary was part of a one-off supergroup with Boy George, Bernard Butler, Mark King, Tim Burgess and Hollie Cook.

 In 2014 Mary embarked on a 19-date UK and European tour supporting US podcast phenomenon Welcome To Night Vale for their wildly popular stage show, which also saw Mary joining them during their show. The sold-out tour included two nights at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire, and was followed in 2015 by a 36- date US tour with Welcome To Night Vale, again sold-out and including the legendary Orpheum in Los Angeles. 

Mary has recently finished recording her second album, and is scoring the hit new podcast Within The Wires.

Ken Freedman is the Station Manager of WFMU (wfmu.org), the longest running and most renowned freeform radio station in the United States. Under his guidance, WFMU became independent of Upsala College, WFMU's original owner. Freedman also developed WFMU's internet presence, making it one of the most popular and forward looking internet radio stations in the U.S. WFMU was the first radio station to offer full on-demand listening, podcasts and a working iPhone stream. He recently founded Congera PBC, which is developing the Audience Engine, an open source platform for small and medium sized broadcasters and journalists. He previously founded the Free Music Archive (freemusicarchive.org), an online music library and social site based on curated music licensed under alternative copyrights such as creative commons licenses. He pioneered the use of copyrights and waivers to address restrictions placed on broadcasters by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Freedman has served on the board of public science and technology company New Brunswick Scientific Company and was a board member and technology advisor to the National Federation of Community (NFCB) broadcasters. He has spoken and presented at conferences sponsored by The Future of Music Coalition, O'Reilly Media. National Public Radio, the Integrated Media Association, and the National Federation of Community Broadcasters.

Marie works at the Roundhouse in Camden, where she gets to do all things audio, film and digital with young creatives and artists alike. She is responsible for the venues award winning youth-led online station, Roundhouse Radio which broadcasts the best new music and most creative spoken word, comedy, and drama direct from the underground studios. The Roundhouse works with over 3,000 under 25s every year and Marie works in the team responsible for providing training and professional opportunities for emerging talent in broadcast and digital. Marie specialises in producing and creating site specific audio experiences, most recently in partnership with Falling Tree and Nesta for FutureFest 2016. 

Marie has worked in the audio industry for the last 12 years. After graduating from university she started out as a broadcast journalist and voiceover artist for stations in the Global network before moving into production and creating human interest documentaries for various independent production companies which lead to her work being heard on stations such as BBC Radio 1, Radio 4, Classic FM and overseas in America and Moldova. Marie has also been commissioned to write and produce a number of radio dramas and soundscapes as well as tutoring emerging writers and presenters at the Roundhouse, The Hampstead Theatre and Only Connect Theatre. During the last four years, Marie was also part of the team who launched youth-led station Reprezent on FM in South London and has gone onto train staff and young people at a number of youth based stations across the UK.

Simon has been experimenting with sound for over 20 years. His music, radio and sound designs have been heard on BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 4, BBC 6 Music, NTS, totallyradio, Resonance FM and ABC (Australia) and performances have taken place at The Royal Festival Hall, Koko, Newhaven Fort and a 1950s Telescope Dome. 

His music under the name The Simonsound, took inspiration from the cold war, space race, science fiction and library music, and the album ‘Reverse Engineering’ was selected by Giles Peterson as one of his records of the year.  A darker sound in Black Channels (a collaboration with singer Becky Randall) found a home on cult soundtrack label Death Waltz Records. 

Current project Akiha Den Den, sees the worlds of radio drama, sound art and experimental music collide.

Hannah Jones is the current station manager at University Radio Falmer (URF) at the University of Sussex, and has also been a presenter at the station for the past two years, presenting a breakfast show, and prior to this she produced a specialist music show, which went on to win an award fromthe University for "Innovation in Student Media".  As station manager, Hannah has coordinated the collaboration of the student station in being part of the DAB trial running in association with other Brighton radio stations, and this has seen both listenership and membership of URF increase.  Hannah also worked as the events coordinator for URF, and during her time in this role brought artists such as Brian May and Kagoule to the University as well as being one of the founders of the URF comedy night, URFunny.  Alongside her role at URF, Hannah is studying for a BSc in Neuroscience.

DJ, music maker, radio producer and presenter, Darren Knott (alias DK) is a key component and one of the driving forces behind the legendary 'Solid Steel' radio show. 

In 2001 he released the 'Solid Steel presents' Mix CD on Ninja Tune alongside DJ Food, and toured on 4 decks with Strictly Kev (DJ Food) throughout the UK and the world. The Solid Steel mix CD was critically acclaimed achieving compilation of the year in Q, DJ Magazine, Time Out and Seven, plus compilation of the month in Jockey Slut and Dazed & Confused. 

Regular presenter and producer on Coldcut's infamous Solid Steel Show, formerly on Kiss FM, BBC London and Strongroom Alive in London. He has also been instrumental in syndicating the show to over 30 radio stations worldwide, broadcasting possibly the best mix show on the airwaves. 

Studio work has included the track 'Arcane' by Arc on the Xen Cuts compilation and remixing 'Timber' for Coldcut and a remix for The Cinematic Orchestra. 

In 2007, alongside DJ Food again, he followed up their Solid Steel debut with the sequel - 'Now, Listen Again' and the pair spent much of 2008 transferring their mix into a 4 deck audio visual live show. They used Serato's video plug-in, enabling video to be mixed live via turntables.

In 2009 DJ Food & DK created their Video mix “Now, Look & Listen”. With the DVD they showcase the Audio Visual set they have been performing on 4 turntables and 3 mixers in clubs all around the world.  Months were spent making videos for each piece of music, either using the original source material or, in most cases, sampling footage to create a new video entirely. It has become a way for DJ Food & DK to visualize their already legendary DJ sets. As usual, it's the diverse mix of music that they love and are known for, that takes in current club floor fillers, but also makes room for classic tracks. 

2010 was dominated by the Ninja Tune XX 20th Anniversary celebrations in which DK, alongside DJ Food put together a bespoke AV set of Ninja Tune and Big Dada only releases. They toured this set throughout Europe, America and Japan with a full roster of label mates including Coldcut, Roots Manuva, Toddla T, Kid Koala and DJ Kentaro.

At the start of 2011, DK presented his solo AV mix ‘Cymatic Frequencies’, a visual mixtape featuring the best musical offerings from that year and it has received over 50,000 hits on the Solid Steel Vimeo page.
‘Cymatic Frequencies II’, followed at the end of 2011 (a 2 ½ hour Video Mixtape in two parts), adding visuals to his favourite mixes of the year. Both parts have featured in the top 3 of the iTunes Music Video podcast chart, including the No.1 spot.

2013 was a busy year as Solid Steel celebrated 25 years of broadcasting, playing at various parties around the world, including Bristol alongside DJ Shadow and London with Four Tet, Actress, Illum Sphere, Mr Scruff, The Orb and the whole Solid Steel roster.

In 2015 DK did a Radio 1 Essential Mix alongside Coldcut as part of the celebrations for the Ninja Tune 25th Anniversary and in 2016 Solid Steel is even stronger.

A Berlin-native, she moved to London for an MA in Music in Development in 2014 after completing a BA in Politics at the Free University of Berlin and having worked in music, film and TV. Miia started managing SOAS Radio in 2015 – an online radio station based at SOAS University London that has been broadcasting a wide range of global speech and music content for the last 10 years.

Inspired by the rise of independent radio stations in London and the recent online media discussions on sexism in broadcasting and DJ culture, Miia is currently writing her Masters dissertation on Gender & Independent Radio Stations in London.

Imriel Morgan is the Co-Founder and CEO of the ShoutOut Network and the Co-host of the Melanin Millennials podcast. Imriel studied BSc Biological Anthropology at Durham University and went on to train as Behavioural Scientist in the Caribbean. Imriel returned to London in 2013 and started working as a self-trained Content Marketer in a London-based startup. In 2015, Imriel teamed up with Efe Jerome, Founder of the ShoutOut Network to create podcasts hosted by people from underrepresented backgrounds in British media. The ShoutOut Network has now produced five podcasts covering history, literature, comedy and philosophy, and theatre, film and music.

Hanna has worked in commercial radio for over ten years across stations in Sussex alongside work with community stations. It is her passion. Starting off helping out the news team in her home town of Eastbourne she ended up co-hosting two Breakfast Shows at once for Eastbourne and Hastings - a baptism of fire! A baptism which led to her leaving radio in 2010 to work for local newspapers doing marketing, launching new products and then in new technology for FTSE 200 companies, amongst others. But local radio drew her back in with a weekend show at Brighton’s Juice 107.2. Three years ago Hanna started at Juice full-time presenting the Breakfast Show every week day and working as part of the commercial team before becoming a mum 18 months ago and concentrating more on the on-air side of the role.

Marcus O’Dair is a senior lecturer in popular music at Middlesex University in London, where he co-leads the Popular Music programme and is the convenor of the Blockchain for Creative Industries research cluster. Different Every Time, his 2014 biography of Robert Wyatt, was shortlisted for the Penderyn music book prize and was a Radio 4 book of the week. He has also written for publications including the Guardian, the Independent, the Financial Times, the Irish Times, Uncut, the Arts Desk, the Quietus, Pitchfork, the Wire and Jazzwise, and appears reasonably regularly on BBC Radio 3 and BBC 6 Music. Marcus is one half of Grasscut, who have released three acclaimed albums (Ninja Tune, Lo Recordings) and performed across Europe. As a session musician, he also spent several years on retainer with Passenger, but managed to leave before Let Her Go became an international number one.

Elijah is a DJ (Sofist) and producer who has a weekly radio show on Northbrook’s own NSR.FM called Sofist & Friends. Nick Quah is the founder and proprietor of Hot Pod, an independent one-person media operation that covers the podcast industry through analyses, essays, and interviews. Its scope exists somewhere at the nexus of art, culture, commerce, and technological structure. He has been Artist-In-Residence (Popular Music) at Leeds Beckett University; delivered a TEDx talk on the generation gap; taken a one-man show of A.A.
