Be it as a DJ, broadcaster, or producer of award winning radio, Neil Bopperson has a varied skill set.  Having been snapped up by two of London's most highly acclaimed record labels, Wah Wah 45s and First Word Records, has garnered invaluable experience both in the behind-the-scenes running of an independent imprint, and as a resident DJ for the pair.  The latter of which has seen him share stages with artists as varied as Theo Parrish, Plan B and Mike Skinner (The Streets), right up to the one and only Blues Brother himself, Mr. Dan Akroyd.

Cutting his teeth at a young age DJing in Sheffield, and then moving to Seville, Lisbon, and Manchester, he now bases himself in East London, where he can competently carve out a conversation over the airwaves or start the party on the dance floor with his eclectic tastes and incendiary DJ sets.  

Young Bopperson’s radio chops were learned at the Point Blank Music School in London, which has received Goldie, Monki & Claude Von Stroke as alumni. From there Neil went to Rinse FM and then to Folded Wing where he gained further radio knowledge and experience.

Neil can currently by heard curating and producing radio content for Meat Transmission in London and Le Mellotron in Paris, as well as plying his DJ wares across the globe.

You And Music Radio Takes its inspiration from the vibrant musical community of Peckham and the surrounding areas of South East London. You And Music Radio is a partnership between two pillars of the Peckham music scene: Rye Lane-based record shop YAM Records and local record label, First Word Records. Our aim is simple - to provide a platform for the incredible musical talent that we are lucky to enjoy in our corner of London, add to this some high quality speech based shows from the wider community. South East London has many stories to tell, and we hope to make YAM Radio the place for them to be told.

Dave Cawley is one of the founders of FatCat Records. FatCat started life in 1989 as a record shop specialising in Detroit and Chicago based techno and house music. It soon established itself as a home for the first wave of UK electronica scene, supporting acts such as Aphex Twin, Black Dog, B12, Evolution and so on. The store closed in 1997 and the label was formed in its place. Now in its 18th year,  the label has a firm ethos of championing new and undiscovered artists. With offshoot imprints 130701 Records, Split Series, Splinter Series and Palmist Records, the label has cultivated a musically diverse and rich catalogue of releases from such artists as Sigur Ros, Animal Collective, Frightened Rabbit, Vashti Bunyan, Mum, Max Richter , The Twilight Sad, Honeyblood, Hauschka, Dustin O Halleran, Nina Nastasia etc.

Chris Cooke is MD and Business Editor of CMU, a service provider to the music industry. Best known for its media – the CMU Daily, CMU Podcast, CMU Digest and CMU Trends – the CMU business also provides training and consultancy to music companies, hosts the CMU Insights @ The Great Escape conference, and runs the CMU:DIY education programme for new talent.

DEBONAIR, also known as Debi Ghose, is a broadcaster, club DJ, and voiceover. She first started presenting radio as a student, going on to work in production at BBC 6 Music, Radio 4 and the U.S.’s NPR, as well as presenting The Brixton Allstars on Resonance FM. 

In 2011, DEBONAIR joined NTS Radio at the onset, and as Programme Director she ensured the station reflected the most innovative and underrepresented music and speech radio, bringing shows such as Blackest Ever Black, Bahamian Moor and Lucifer Over London to the airwaves.

These days she's focussed on her own sound, holding down a prime-time slot on NTS, where her biweekly sessions have gained a loyal following thanks to her on-point selections of post-punk, coldwave, EBM, techno, italo and classic house. 

She regularly steps out of the studio to play parties on London’s underground club circuit and has developed a reputation for delivering punchy, dynamic sets at venues like Fabric, Oval Space and Corsica Studios. She’s as comfortable on a bill with an out-there experimentalist like Fis as she is with a freewheeling party DJ like DMX Krew and brings these two worlds together at Linear Space, the party she co-runs.

Ellie Dobing is a voice over artist, audio producer, project manager and media trainer but not necessarily in that order! She specialises in bespoke training for the Community and Voluntary Sector, NGOs and development orgs. She has recently returned to the board of directors at RadioReverb 97.2fm.

Ellie's radio career started in Brighton at Earshot, a not-for-profit audio training organisation. It was here that RadioReverb was born and Ellie was on the original team that put together the fist application for a Brighton community radio licence in 2003/4. She left Brighton to work at BBC London before heading to South Sudan where she lived for 2 years. setting up community radio stations in remote, rural areas in an often challenging and hostile environment. Since then she has worked for NGOs and media orgs in places as diverse as Kenya, New Zealand and Suffolk.
Ellie's voice over work can be heard at the British Museum, Lloyds Bank, the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, Mazda, Microsoft and in dozens of other places. It's amazing what you can get away with sitting in the wardrobe with a decent reorder and a duvet over your head.

Mickey has been a DJ and record collector since 1993 and his focus has always been left of centre, the ‘other room’ sound. He started promoting at the end of the 90’s and had the pleasure of playing next to and hosting such luminaries as Norman Jay, 4 Hero, Melle Mel and the Furious five, Daddy G, James Lavelle & UNKLE amongst many others. 
He had the idea 18 months or so ago to start a radio station as he felt the music he loved wasn’t being represented.  So, he started a community interest company and 1 Brighton FM was born. As one of three directors, it’s a labour of love but he wouldn’t have it any other way!

Ben's radio career may still be in it's infancy but is filled with exciting new movements in the radio industry. Since studying radio production at the University of Westminster he's dedicated his time to developing young, under-exposed talent across the capital. 

Throughout his degree he gained experience freelancing at various radio stations and finally ended up as a voluntary station assistant at Radar Radio. Since joining Radar 9 months ago he's brought a more traditional approach to it's previously pirate style of broadcasting which landed him his current job as Radar Radio's Station Manager. Taking this role has allowed him to further develop the exposure of some of the most exciting and underrated talent in London.

Originally starting out in club promotion he ran seminal clubnights Funky Mule and New Bohemia in his adopted city of Leeds for many years, running shows for a host of acts. Highlights include Roots Manuva, Bonobo, Nightmares On Wax, Quantic Soul Orchestra, 4Hero, Benji B, Gilles Peterson and Flying Lotus. Starting out doing warm-up slots at his own nights he gradually built a reputation for his eclectic and floor-filling sets, holding down a residency at famed Leeds venue The Hifi Club for several years. Spiritual Radio (2014) was made as a transmitting book for Jotta’s and Blurb's Unbinding the Book exhibition at the Whitechapel Gallery, “pages of the book are held shut by copper nails, connected to form a transmitter circuit through which words flow in an eternal loop….the text awaits the listener who is tuned to the right frequency” (The Guardian). She is a senior radio lecturer at Canterbury Christ Church University. Her latest project Tree Radio (2015) is at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and was developed during an Arts for the Environment summer residency.

Having joined Tru Thoughts in 2007 as an intern, Rosie progressed to Head of Press and Promotions, shoehorning Radio into her job title as it grew to take up more and more of the role – something she welcomed, as a lifelong lover of the medium. Now equal parts press officer and radio plugger, she has enjoyed chipping away at national radio, increasing Tru Thoughts’ presence there to the point where it now punches above its indie label weight, its releases gaining regular airplay and official BBC playlisting. Alongside the mainstream, a large part of her role as an in-house plugger has also always been to keep strong ties with the independent, online, international and specialist DJs and broadcasters, supporters of non-mainstream music who are constantly innovating and pushing radio forward. Rosie has learnt a lot from them, and knows there’s a lot more to come.

Rash began his career in broadcasting over twenty years ago as a radio DJ. After finding it all too terrifying, he focused on his passion for audio, radio frequency engineering and digital electronics. He has worked in local and National radio behind the scenes helping to make radio happen. Over the years he has designed and built dozens of radio stations and has always pushed the technological envelope while looking for new and better ways to make, deliver and make use of technology to democratise the broadcasting world by finding elegant (and sometimes not so elegant!) engineering solutions to circumvent the barriers to entry.

 After first going online in 1994 Rash realised the potential of the Internet as a disruptive multimedia platform and that it would rapidly evolve from a haven for hackers and academics, to a mass-medium. He was one of the pioneers of Internet radio in the UK - and later went on to design and deploy what is now one of the UK's premier Content Delivery Networks for broadcasting.

Now broadcasting via the Internet has come of age, Rash is proactive in exploring how the continuing convergence can be leveraged to marry the wireless world with the IP world as (he insists) that it's a match made in heaven. Rash still enjoys occasionally DJing around town to keep his ear in, and works as a Senior Broadcast Specialist in the Radio & TV team at Ofcom.

Daniel Nathan has more than 30 years’ radio industry experience starting with pirate radio in the early 1980s which led him to co-found the UK's first 'alternative' format station licenced in the UK. 'Festival Radio' spin-off Festival Productions made award-winning syndicated new music radio, ad campaigns, drama and documentaries for the BBC and UK commercial radio. Daniel was co-founder of Kiss 102 - Manchester and Kiss 105 - Yorkshire. He is Chairman of Brighton’s Juice 107.2 in Brighton, which he launched in 1998. In 2000, he created totallyradio.com, the UK's original internet station playing music beyond the mainstream. Daniel was a key contributor to the launch of UK Radioplayer in 2011 and served on their Technical Steering Group. He was Project Lead for three R&D projects funded by the Government's Technology Strategy Board from 2012 and co-authored a National Radio Archive feasibility study for the British Library in 2014.  In July 2015 Daniel launched the UK's first open source broadcast digital radio multiplex in Brighton. Daniel has also lectured in radio and radio production at London's Goldsmiths', Birkbeck Colleges and The University of Sussex.

Darrel Sheinman is an award winning entrepreneur. After a career as a financial and commodities derivatives trader with blue chip banks including Morgan Stanley, Credit Suisse and Societe Generale, as well as an independent trader on the futures exchange, he founded  Pole Star Global in 1998, the world’s leading maritime electronic surveillance system. More recently, through his experience as a semi-professional drummer, audiophile and Blue Note record collector, he founded Gearbox Records Ltd in 2009, one the UK’s leading vinyl record labels, to deliver vinyl product of uncompromising quality. The business incorporates a jazz, folk and electronica label and a highly specialised mastering and cutting facility incorporating some of the most important modern and vintage equipment made.

His strong entrepreneurial, financial and corporate background, combined with experience in the field as a maritime security professional and as a music specialist, has meant he is in demand for advisory and board roles. In this capacity, he has served on the Council of the Royal Geographical Society (where he is a Fellow), The Department for Trade and Industry Energy Board (now BIS), several venture capital trust boards, and a medical vision screening board. In addition to running Gearbox Records Ltd, he advises from time to time across a broad spectrum of activities, including budding entrepreneurs in an incubator fund through to ex special forces operatives on maritime security matters and developing mastering quality control specifications for the Music Producers Guild. He has a Joint BSc Honours degree in Chemistry and Business Administration.

Darrel is a proud father, and when time allows he enjoys playing the drums. Being an ex Harlequins player, he is an avid rugby fan as well as enjoying fishing, skiing, motor racing and martial arts.

Dr Martin Spinelli is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Media, Film and Music at the University of Sussex and is a best-selling non-fiction author.  His writing on media art, culture, politics and law are widely published in journals and anthologies while his own radio work has been heard on Radio 2, Radio 3 and Radio 4, National Public Radio in the US, the ABC in Australia and numerous other stations and networks around the world.  He is currently working on a book about podcasting.

Tabitha Thorlu-Bangura (born in Freetown, Sierra Leone; lives in London) is the UK & EU Production Coordinator at NTS, an independent online radio station based in Dalston. She studied English Literature and Language at the University of Leeds, MA Postcolonial Literature at Stockholm University, Sweden and studied Scandinavian film and television history at the Swedish Film Institute. She has written for online magazines including Truants and Dazed Digital. She has also worked at underground music institutions Plastic People and the Hydra, and recently co-ordinated a weekend-long multi-venue music festival across Dalston in aid of Oxfam. Tabitha initially managed NTS’s editorial presence before moving on to nationwide and European programming and broadcasting projects, and is currently working on external collaborations with national art institutions and brands. 

Broadcaster / University Radio Falmer (URF)

Nick Werren is a student radio presenter at University Radio Falmer (URF) and has been presenting consistently on the student station for three years, two of which were spent as station manager.

The last 3 years have been packed with media experience for the 22 year old. As a student presenter he has presented a radio show for three years, some of which included interviews with such famous figures as Bastille, Brian May, Caroline Lucas, The 1975, Benjamin Francis Leftwich, The Family Rain and Frightened Rabbit. During his two years as station manager of URF, he pushed the rebranding of the student station, and then oversaw the membership of URF double, obtained a state of the art studio for the students of Sussex to use and won an award for “Outstanding Contribution to Student Media” from the University, alongside a first class degree in BSc Physic. Experience learnt from presenting for his local hospital radio, Coastway, and working for BBC Radio Cornwall proved to be invaluable in teaching him the importance of community radio, and how it contrasts to its commercial counterpart.

Although he is currently doing an MSc in Physics at Sussex, Nick is still dedicated to student media. He is still presenting on URF and has a column in the student paper; The Badger. Aside from occasionally funnelling his energy into a stand-up show, Nick puts most of his creativity into his weekly podcast, “Today’s Week, Tonight Weekly” which covers a range of issues, from science to comedy, and music to news.
